Bio & ResumeBiograpy of Dr. Gordon (Spud) Van de WaterDr. Gordon (Spud) Van de Water is president of Van de Water Consulting, a firm providing education policy development, planning, evaluation and facilitation services to education, government and business leaders. Spud is the former Executive Director of Emerging Issues and Program Director for P-16 Education at the Education Commission of the States. Prior to joining ECS, Spud was a founding partner of Augenblick, Van de Water & Associates. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history and government from St. Lawrence University, his MPA from the University of Michigan, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. His nickname was given to him by his older brothers for his inability to find the strike zone when pitching batting practice on the farm in upstate New York. It comes from a pitcher for the New York Yankees in the 1940s by the name of Spud Chandler.
